Salmon
When?
Salmon fishing is permitted form 1/3 to 14/10. Salmon starts ascending during the months of April and May; however, high water flow is required to assist this process. During the month of August spawning takes place and this culminates in the months of September and October. October the 14th of course is the last day of the season.
Where?
Salmon should be caught where it is standing in the river, as it does not feed in freshwater during spawning. Good places for salmon fishing are at the outlet of Lagan into the sea, at Åmot where the river Smedjeån merges with the Lagan, at the sewage treatment works, Per-Karl's Hall (where fly fishing is particularly good), by the reef (Revet) and at Halmstadhålan, just below the bridges in Laholm and Gröningen at the very top part of the Lagan where fishing is also permitted (see map).
How?
Primarily salmon is caught by spinning with trolling spoons or artificial flies as well as fly-fishing. There are major discussions on which colour fly is most suitable, however, since the water in the autumn is dyed by humus, it might be worth trying yellow/red or orange. Traditional bait such as Toby or similar are also approved. Fishing with worms and shrimp is also permitted.
Sea trout
When?
Trout fishing is permitted between 1/3 and 14/10.
Where?
The sea trout feeds both in the spring when the so-called "greenlander" ascends and during spawning in the autumn. Fishing can take place along the whole length of the Lagan until the middle of April. When the water temperature rises, the sea trout starts pushing out towards the sea. In May, the fish abandon the Lagan for the sea.
How?
During March and April when the water is at it's coldest, the sea trout keeps close to the bottom. Bait of 28 to 40 gram is advisable during this period. Shiny, thin bait for example "Wiggler" usually works well in the spring. Fishing with yellow/orange or red flies may also work well. During fishing in the autumn, the sea trout usually prefers the "tub flies", but shiny silver bait regularly works too.
Flounder
When?
Flounder fishing (sand dab) is permitted between 8/3 and 31/12, but is usually fished from mid October til the end of the season. Flounder has the best quality in November/December.
OBS! Flounder cards aren't sold until Oct 15.
Where?
Good places for fishing are from Daggan (see map) which holds the upper limit for flounder fishing, to the outlet of Lagan into the sea. The boatpier on the south side of Lagan is a popular spot for fishing, as well as the area around the mouth of Lagan on the north side.
How?
Fishing is done angling with sandworms or shrimp, only fishing rods permitted. However, it is allowed to use more than one hook. Since Lagan is a controlled source of water with varying water levels, different sinker weights are recommended. You can obtain fishing cards for a whole year, as well as day-cards for flounder fishing.
